Ang Thong National Marine Park is situated in the province of Surat Thani, about 28 kilometers northwest of the popular tourist destination, Koh Samui.
The park consists of a group of 42 islands scattered over an area of approximately 102 square kilometers. These islands are known for their dramatic limestone cliffs, lush jungles, and pristine beaches.
The islands in Ang Thong National Marine Park are primarily made up of limestone, which has been eroded by natural forces over millions of years, resulting in unique formations such as caves, tunnels, and rock formations.
The park offers several breathtaking viewpoints, including the famous “Emerald Lake” (also known as Talay Nai), which is a saltwater lake surrounded by sheer cliffs. The lake gets its name from the vibrant green color of the water caused by the reflection of sunlight on the limestone bottom.
Diverse Marine Life Ang Thong National Marine Park is home to a rich and diverse marine ecosystem. The waters surrounding the islands are teeming with colorful coral reefs, tropical fish, sea turtles, and even dolphins.Snorkeling and diving are popular activities for visitors to explore this underwater paradise.
Flora and Fauna The islands’ dense jungles are home to a variety of plant and animal species. You can find exotic wildlife such as long-tailed macaques, pythons, sea eagles, and bats. The park is also known for its unique flora, including rare orchids and indigenous plants.
